~CERF~
CERF is short for Canine Eye Registration Foundation. This is organization does testing for specific canine genetic defects involving the eyes, like Canine Retinal Atrophy.
Country of Origin: Germany.
Size: Shoulder height: 33 - 36 cm (12 - 14 inches).
Coat: Can be black with silver markings, salt-and-pepper colored, and black. The American Miniature Schnauzer Club does not recognize the color white, although some unscrupulous breeders and uninformed pet shops advertise this color as “rare white” and ask a premium price for puppies of this color. It is true that a solid white miniature Schnauzer is rare, but it is an abnormality, and should not be bred. In addition to white not being allowed in the show ring, the colors yellow, cream, or wheaten are also unacceptable. Parti-colored dogs (basically white with various colored patches) are also not approved of according to the AKC standard. Schnauzers do not shed like most dogs do, so people with allergies can feel free to snuggle!
Character: This breed is lively, intelligent, attentive, and can be stubborn. It is very loyal to its family and very loving.
Temperament: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. Strangers will be announced with loud barking. They like to be with their people or with other pets and don't do well by themselves all day.
Care: Hair around the face should be combed regularly to avoid tangles. Excessive hair around the pads of the feet must be trimmed. Grooming should be done once to every other month. If dog is to be shown, coat needs to be plucked by hand twice a year. It must never be clipped. Grooming needs are moderate and depend on what you like to see as the owner.
Teeth: You should have some type of regiment for cleaning the teeth, it is recommend that you use pet tooth past along with a pet tooth brush and/or terry cloth wash cloth on your pets teeth at lest once a week.
Training: The handler must be confident and consistent. They are eager learners, but sometimes have their own agenda.
Activity: The Miniature Schnauzer has boundless energy. It likes to run and play in the yard and take long country walks. They are generally good travelers and love to "GO".
Items of interest: Give dog filtered water or well water to drink, city tap water has chlorine in it, and it may cause hot spots/bumps and or poor skin. Schnauzer enjoy water sources outside, you may want to keep a pot or container of water outside for them as they play.
